  • Description

QUEEN ELIZABETH AND THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH SET OFF HALF AN HOUR LATE TODAY (TUESDAY) TO BEGIN THEIR TOUR OF THE CARIBBEAN AFTER A WARNING THAT A BOMB HAD BEEN PLACED ON THEIR PLANE.

THE ROYAL COUPLE WERE READY TO LEAVE THE AIRPORT LOUNGER WHEN AN ANONYMOUS CALL WAS RECEIVED SAYING A BOMB HAD BEEN PLACE ABOARD THE SUPER VC-10. THE QUEEN AND THE DUKE REMAINED IN THE LOUNGE FOR 30 MINUTES WHILE A PARTY OF 20 SECURITY OFFICERS BRISKLY SEARCHED THE AIRCRAFT BUT NOTHING UNUSUAL WAS FOUND. THE PLANE HAD BEEN SEARCHED PREVIOUSLY AS A ROUTINE CHECK.

WHEN THE AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN CLEARED, THE QUEEN DRESSED IN BLUE EMERGED SMILING FROM THE LOUNGE, ACCOMPANIED BY THE DUKE, INTO THE BRILLIANT MORNING SUNSHINE. THE ROYAL STANDARD WAS BROKEN OUT OVER THE FLIGHT DECK AND THE SILVER AND BLUE AIRLINER TAXIED AWAY.

AFTER REFUELLING AT GANDER, THE AIRLINER WILL TAKE THE ROYAL COUPLE DIRECT TO BARBADOS WHERE THEY WILL EMBARK ON THE ROYAL YACHT BRITANNIA TO BEGIN THEIR TOUR OF THE CARIBBEAN.
