  • Description

Militant miners picketed the National Union of Mineworkers building in London today (Thursday) as pay negotiations which have brought 120,000 men out on unofficial strike continued. The Union's executive have reaffirmed their decision to go ahead with a national ballot of the union's 300,000 mineworkers on the Coal Board's offer of three pounds sterling (7.2 dollars) a week pay increase.

The pay negotiations have become increasingly bitter and the Chairman of the Coal Board, Lord Robens, earlier accused the unofficial strikers of being "Communist dominated."
The pickets outside the Union headquarters called for a five-pounds-a-week (12 dollars) increase and a delegation went inside to talk to Union officials. After a short meeting they left the building to be met by their chanting colleagues.

Union officials were unable to leave the building until after the crowd of militant pickets had dispersed.
