  • Description

The Greek Regent, General George Zoetakis, took the salute at a military parade in Athens yesterday (Wednesday, 28 October) to mark Ochi-Day. "Ochi is greek for "NO" and Ochi-Day is the anniversary of Greece's refusal to submit to occupation by Italy in the Second World War. The saluting base was the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens.

The parade followed the annual The Deum at the Metropolitan cathedral in Athens to mark Ochi-Day and also the 58th anniversary of the liberation of Salonica.

Members of the Greek Government, other national dignitaries and members of the diplomatic corps attended the parade.

On show were display pieces of modern equipment used by the Greek armed forces, including Hawk, Nike and Honest John missiles from America.

A similar parade took place in Salonica the same day.
