  • Description

A group of 14 international sculptors are currently exhibiting their works in the Saint-Agustin metro (underground) station in the heart of Paris. Sixty works are on show - our film looks at the general ensemble, and at five works in close-up. The selection was made as follows: Moon-Shin from Korea represents the two Asians; Constantin Andreou of Brazil, represents the four Latinamericans and one Canadian; the seven Europeans are represented by Subira-Puig from Spain and Paolo Santini from Italy; and Nissim Merkado represents Israel. Authorities hope that, with this and future exhibits, they will bring art to the messes - many of whom would seldom think of visiting art galleries.

Called the "Salon de Mars" (March Saloon), the exhibition runs during the entire month of March. Apart from special guides to explain and guard the works, the artists themselves take turns at the metro station, explaining the works and their motivations and styles.

SYNOPSIS: The Paris metro is world-famous - but not as an art gallery. Now the French Ministry of Transport has decided to change this -- and the Saint-Agustin station in the heart of the capital has been turned into a salon for fourteen international sculptors.

Moon-Shin, from Korea, is one of the two Asians exhibiting their works.

Brazil's surrealist Constantin Andreou is one of the five American artists on show - while a wooden sculpture by Spain's Subira-Puig is one of the works of seven European artists participating in the display.

Another is this bronze woman's bust by Paolo Santini of Italy. While Israel is represented by Bulgarian-born Nissim Merkado, (PAUSE) All the works are on sale - at between 2000 and 80,000 francs (150 and 6000 pounds sterling/360 and 14,000 dollars). However, for the commuting art lovers who cannot afford these prices, there are miniature reproductions on sale from 400 francs (55 pounds/ 130 dollars).
