Background: Dr. Kamuzu Banda, the President of Malawi and British Prime Minister Harold Wilson met for 40 minutes at Number 10 Downing Street (Mr. Wilson's residence), London, on Wednesday (16 April).

Government officials said that the two leaders discussed the forthcoming Commonwealth Summit Conference and questions concerning Africa and Europe.

Dr. Banda called on Mr. Wilson immediately after a 90-minute meeting with British Foreign Secretary (Minister) James Callaghan, at which some problems of southern Africa were reviewed, the officials added. They did not disclose details, but indicated that aspects of the Rhodesian independence dispute came up.

Earlier on Wednesday Dr. Banda was Mr. Callaghan's luncheon guest at Marlborough House, the Commonwealth Secretariat headquarters in London. Other guests included Malawi's Labour, Transport and Communications Minister, Mr. W. Deleza, Youth and Culture Minister Mr. G. Chakuamba Phiri and the Malawi High Commissioner in London, Mr. Joe Kachingwe.
