Background: Our industrial correspondent, Bertran Mycock, spoke to two senior engineers on the site today.

A public inquiry had delayed work on this beautiful stretch of heathland, but now that the Commoners' Hights Bill has been passed by Parliament, teams of workers have taken possession of the land.

The first bulldozers are already levelling the 700-acre site on which the new atomic research station will rise.
