Life is hard for the thousands of refugees in camps throughout Jordan. Often they are caught up in the fighting between Government troops and the Palestine Commandos. Sometimes the hostilities with Israel bring them tragedy. And when the fighting stops, Nature can prove an enemy. In the past week snow and rain have hit many of the refugee camps.
At Schneller Camp in Amman torrential rain damaged many homes. Metal houses which have been provided by relief organisations withstood the downpour but tents became sodden and collapsed.
Some camps in the hills outside Amman were covered by snow. The inhabitants of Schneller Camp, which is at a lower altitude, were spared this but still shivered in icy winds. For refugees with only canvas between them and the sky it looks like being a bitter winter.
