    THOUSANDS OF YOUTHS MARCHED THROUGH THE STREETS OF PRAGUE TODAY (THURSDAY) IN THE CLIMAX OF A DAY OF DEMONSTRATIONS FOR AND AGAINST SOVIET INTERVENTION IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA. THE INCIDENTS COINCIDED WITH CELEBRATIONS TO MARK THE 51ST ANNIVERSARY OF THE BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION, AND POLICE WERE FORCED TO STEP IN TO MAINTAIN ORDER. AT A SPECIAL WREATH-LAYING CEREMONY ATTENDED BY CZECH COMMUNIST PARTY LEADER MR. ALEXANDER DUBCEK, AND THE PREMIER, MR. OLDRICH CERNIK, A LARGE GROUP OF ELDERLY MEN AND WOMEN DEMONSTRATED THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE KREMLIN.

    THE OFFICIAL CEREMONY WAS REPORTED TO BE ONE OF THE MOST MODEST SINCE CZECHOSLOVAKIA BECAME COMMUNIST 20 YEARS AGO.

    AS MORE THAN 1,000 ELDERLY MEN AND WOMEN, ALL REPORTED TO BE MOSCOW LOYALISTS, JOINED MR. DUBCEK IN THE WREATH-LAYING CEREMONY AT THE RUSSIAN WAR MEMORIAL IN OLCANY CEMETERY, THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS BEGAN A SIT-IN AT CHARLES UNIVERSITY, AS AN ANTI-SOVIET PROTEST.

    MR. DUBCEK, WHO WITH OTHER PARTY AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS HAS BEEN UNDER PRESSURE FROM MOSCOW TO REVISE THEIR LIBERAL POLITICAL IDEAS, WAS REPORTED TO BE LOOKING PALE AS HE STOOD AT ATTENTION BESIDE PREMIER CERNIK WHILE THE NATIONAL ANTHEMS OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND THE SOVIET UNION WERE PLAYED BY A MILITARY BAND.

    IMMEDIATELY AFTER, THE OFFICIALS MOVED 200 YARDS (METRES) AWAY FOR THE UNVEILING OF A MEMORIAL TO CZECH AND OTHER TROOPS WHO FELL IN BATTLE ALONGSIDE SOVIET FORCES FURING WORLD WAR TWO.
