  • Description

The Royal Navy has been testing an Australian anti-submarine missile off the coast of Cornwall.

The missile is the Ikara, which has attracted interest from many of the world's navies. It will be fitted to a number of British warships.

The first of these ships is the frigate HMS Leander, which has just undergone an extensive refit in Dev???oort. The refit included installation of a complete computerised fire control system for the Ikara.....a rocket-propelled vehicle which carries a homing torpedo.

It can be used to attack fast moving submarines at great range. First, a helicopter seeks out the target...then Ikara is launched after it.
