    BUT, THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC CHALLENGED THE EAST GERMAN COMMUNIST PARTY TO NAME ITS REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE UNPRECEDENTED EXCHANGE OF SPEAKERS AT A MEETING, DUE TO BE HELD AT HANOVER ON 21ST JULY.

    WEST BERLIN'S MAYOR WILLY BRANDT, THE SOCIAL DEMOCRAT CHAIRMAN, AND HIS DEPUTY CHAIRMEN, HERR HERBERT WEHMER AND HERR FRITZ ERLER, ARE DUE TO TRAVEL TO KARL-MARX-STADT (FORMERLY CHEMNITZ), IN THE EAST GERMANY, ON 14TH JULY.

    MAYOR BRANDT SAID HE WOULD RELY ON AN EAST GERMAN ASSURANCE THAT HIS TWO DEPUTIES AND HIMSELF WOULD BE SAFE IN EAST GERMANY. IN TURN, HE EXPECTED THE EAST GERMANS TO TRUST HIS PARTY'S ASSURANCE THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE DONE TO ENSURE SAFE PASSAGE FOR THEIR SPEAKERS T HANOVER. UNDER PRESENT WEST GERMAN LAW, SOME EAST GERMAN COMMUNISTS COULD BE ARRESTED AND TRIED.
