Background: The first Soviet ship to use the dry dock facilities in Malta, under the new Soviet-Maltese agreement, entered the Grand Harbour at Valetta on Saturday (October 2).

The ship, the frail hoer "MUEHCK", will undergo a refit and repairs in the extensive Valetta dry dock complex.

The agreement for Soviet shipping to use the Maltese dock facilities was reached after the visit to Malta in August, this year, by the Soviet Ambassador in London, Mr. Mikhail Smirnovsky.

SYNOPSIS: The first Soviet vessel to use the dry dock facilities in Malta, under the recent Soviet-Maltese agreement, entered the Grand Harbour at Valetta on Saturday.

The ship a freighter called the "MUEHCK" was towed to an anchorage in the harbour.

Later it was to undergo a refit and repairs in the extensive Valetta dry dock complex.
