  • Description

Something new in hydroplane boat races -- a 28 mile run through the twisting Sammamish River and Lake Washington -- took place near Seattle, Washington (U.S. West Coast). Sixty-three of the speedy little boats reaching top speeds up to fifty miles an hour made both the spectator and drivers dizzy us they tried to navigate sixty-three turns.

Occasionally, they don't quite make it. The final rad was won by a twenty-two year old college student from the University of Washington, Tom O'Neal. The winning time was 33 minutes and three seconds.
