  • Description

Ambassadors of the United States, France and the Soviet Union met in West Berlin yesterday (Friday) to discuss the future of the city.

It was the eight session of the four-power talks and some reports suggested that a compromise on stabilising the situation in and around Berlin appeared possible.

With the increasing co-operation in recent months between East and West in Europe, the chances for a resolution of the Berlin situation seem hopeful.

After Friday's meeting all that was announced was another meeting early next month. The Soviet Union was represented by Mr Abrasimov. The apparent failure of the four ambassadors to agree on a firm date for the next meeting was believed due to Mr Abrasimov's forthcoming visit to the United Nations next week.
