    38 competitors from 12 countries - Great Britain, Russia, USA, Italy, Hungary, Finland, West Germany, Poland, Rumania, Switzerland, Austria and Sweden - joined in the World Championship in modern Pentathlon in Stockholm. The competition began with the cross country race the first day in a rainy weather. The track was very heavy. No 30 Ferdinandy, Hungary, nr 32 P O Nilsson, Sweden, No 33 Tatarino, Russia, No 34 Tintea Finland, No 36 Sulajnis Poland and 37 Putz, Italy. Winner was the world Champion of 1954 Bjorn Thofeldt, Sweden 7.01.3 996 points, second Ferdinandy, Hungary 7.03.8 988 points and third W Goedicke, West Germany 944 points. The best englishman was D Cobley who got 732 points.

    Sunday it was time for fencing. It began early in the morning and it was over first 10 hours later. This day was the Russians who really fenced fantastic. But it was also a happy day for Great Britain. No 4 D Cobley was third with 930 points, Nr 23 Novikov, Russia won and got 1140 points and second No 26 Tatarinov. After two days 1. Novikov, Russia 1808 points, 2. Tatarinov, Russia 1747 points, 3. Korhonen Finland 1736 points 4. Ferdinandy, Hungary 1708 and 5. D Cobley, Great Britain 1662 points.
