In India, the new government of Charan Singh has entered into its fifth day of rule. And already there are fears that the support the new coalition government once enjoyed could evaporate overnight. Opposition leader Jagjivan Ram says he will seize the first opportunity available to topple the new administration - possibly by as early as the third week in August. However the dire predictions have not stopped the prime minister from installing more cabinet ministers.
SYNOPSIS: On Monday July ???, ten more cabinet ministers were sworn in to Mr. Singh's new cabinet. The ceremony was held at the official residence of President Sanjiya Reddy. Mr Hans Raj Khanna was sworn into the Law, Justice and Company Affairs portfolio.
Another of the new appointees is Chidambaram Subramaniam who will take over defence - a key post in the new nineteen man cabinet.
The new Prime Minister has also included other political parties in his coalition cabinet. His Deputy Prime Minister will be Yeshwantra Chavan of the Official Congress party. And the new Education Minister will be Doctor Karan Singh, also a member of the Official Congress Party. Doctor Singh's a former Maharajah and says he will work in the government without receiving any pay.
However the new cabinet may be short lived. President Reddy says he expects a vote of confidence in the new government within the next month. And it is still unclear whether or not Prime Minister Singh has the support he needs to survive.
