After four busy days of official engagements with the Home Fleet at Gibraltar, Lord Carrington, Britain's First Lord of the Admiralty, saw a ceremonial "steam past", Mar 25, of British and other NATO ships.

On board the fast British minelayer "Apollo", Lord Carrington and Sir Charles Keightley, Governor and C-in-C of Gibraltar naval base, watched as Admiral Sir William Davis, C-in-C Home Fleet and NATO Chief of Eastern Atlantic, took the salute at the naval parade.

More than 10,000 men of the navies of Britain, France, Holland and Portugal sailed in 30 vessels from Gibraltar harbour, on their way for the tactical phase of NATO's annual spring sea-air exercise, Dawn Breeze.
