  • Description

Egypt's President Anwar Sadat said in Damascus on Sunday (18 May) that he had reached full agreement with fallow Arab leaders on Middle East problems.

President Sadat told newsmen that he came to this conclusion after a series of talks with leaders of Syria, Jordan, Kuwait and Iraq, as well as the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, Mr. Yasser Arafat.

The Egyptian President, who was in Damascus on the last leg of his trip, said he discussed with the leaders the situation in the region and future policies.

He added that they have consolidated Arab unity and their views on the new future.

With Mr. Arafat beside him at news conference, President Sadat said the Palestine question remained the core of the whole problem, and that unless this was solved there would be peace.

President Sadat was sizing up the opinions of Arab leaders before his meeting with United States' President Ford in Salzburg, Austria, in less than two weeks.

Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad, whom President Sadat spent three hours for discussions, was at the airport to see him off on Sunday.
