    ART EXPERTS IN WASHINGTON HAVE ESTIMATED THAT 30,000 DOLLARS DAMAGE WAS DONE TO PAINTINGS IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING WHICH WERE SLASHED BY A MAN USING A PAIR OF SCISSORS. A MAN ARRESTED AT THE SCENE WAS NAMED BY POLICE AS GEORGE PALAKIAN, AGED 27 YEARS, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY.

    A WORKMAN CLAIMED TO HAVE SEEN PALAKIAN STABBING WITH A PAIR OF SCISSORS AT THE PAINTINGS WHICH HUNG AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. FOUR PICTURES WERE DAMAGED BEFORE POLICE ARRESTED THE VANDAL.

    LATER, PALAKIAN WAS CHARGED WITH THE DESTRUCTION OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.

    THE DAMAGED WORKS INCLUDED A PAINTING DEPICTING THE SIGNING OF THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION AND PORTRAITS OF TWO AMERICANS STATESMEN WHO SIGNED THE DOCUMENT.

    EXPERTS ARE NOW STUDYING WAYS IN WHICH THE PAINTINGS CAN BE RESTORED.

    SYNOPSIS: A MAN WHO IS SAID TO HAVE DAMAGED FOUR PAINTINGS IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING IN WASHINGTON WAS ARRESTED BY POLICE AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RUN AWAY.

    THE PAINTINGS HAD BEEN SLASHED WITH SCISSORS AND THE DAMAGE IS ESTIMATED AT THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. AMONG THEM WAS ONE WHICH DEPICTS THE SIGNING OF THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION.
