Background: The red carpet was rolled out at Ottawa airport on October 29 for the Duke of Edinburgh who flew in by Comet from Britain. He had flown the three and a half thousand miles in eight and a half hours -- an average speed of four hundred and sixteen miles per hour. BCAC claim this as a record crossing.
At the airport the Duke was met by the Governor-General, Mr. Massey, and the acting-Premier, Mr. Howard Green. Also in the reception party were officials of the English Speaking Union from Canada, Britain and the USA.
The Duke of Edinburgh is in Canada for this week's English Speaking Union's deliberations. He is due back in Britain on November 1.
