    POPE PAUL DROVE TO THE SCENE OF THE FIRST LENTEN STATION, ON ROME'S AVENTINE HILL, IN THE ANCIENT CHURCH OF SANTA SABINA. HUNDREDS TURNED OUT TO WATCH AS HE ARRIVED IN AN OPEN CAR. LATER A LARGE CROWD OF THE FAITHFUL, INCLUDING MANY PRIESTS AND NUNS, WATCHED THE CEREMONY AT THE ALTAR OF THE CHURCH.

    POPE PAUL ADDRESSED THE CONGREGATION, ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PENITENCE TO A ROMAN CATHOLIC.
