CU Whitlam speaking
TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 1: WHITLAM: "The Australian people are being asked to contemplate the possibility of another election for no better reason than Mr Snedden's colleagues are breathing down his neck - that is, if they think there's an election they'll leave him alone. Now, he cannot commit them to bad conduct, or compel them to good conduct - the Parliamentary system everywhere is being challenged as never before - the irresponsibility of the Opposition injects a new poison, a further uncertainty into the Australian system - for our part, we are determined to work on the basic assumption of elections, and in 1974, the people elected us for a further 3 years and we have a mandate to carry out our programme during the full term for which we were elected."
