SYNOPSIS: The new Ethiopian Ambassador to Liberia, Mr. Getahun Marian, presented his credentials to President Tolbert at a ceremony in Monrovia, the country's capital, on Wednesday.
The Ambassador, who is the first foreign envoy to present credentials to President Tolbert since the death of President Tubman earlier this year, said Ethiopia and Liberia shared something in common. They were, he said, "beacons of hope for Africa during the days of colonial rule". Both could claim to have fought imperialism longer than any other African state, he said. Replying, President Tolbert said both Liberia and Ethiopia had a duty to continue fighting for the freedom of all the world's oppressed people.
Afterwards, the new ambassador was introduced to top government officials including members of the cabinet and senior military personnel.
