    THE LATEST SETBACK IN THE LABOUR DISPUTE WHICH APPEARS TO BE MOVING TOWARDS TOTAL DEADLOCK, IS THE DECISION OF LONDON DOCKERS TO BAN WEEKEND WORKING AND OVERTIME.

    THIS ACTION, VOTED LAST FRIDAY BY 6,000 OF THE PORT'S 15,000 LABOUR FORCE, WAS TAKEN WITHOUT WAITING FOR THE OUTCOME OF AN INQUIRY, ORDERED BY THE LABOUR GOVERNMENT ONLY A WEEK AFTER IT TOOK OFFICE IN OCTOBER.

    THE BUILD UP OF CARGOES AT THE PORT BEGAN LAST JULY WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE 40-HOUR, FIVE-DAY WEEK, WITH VOLUNTARY WEEKEND WORK.
