  • Description

Uganda beat Zambia 2-0 on Monday (December 10) to put themselves in a strong position in the Triangular Kenya Jamhari (Independence) Cup soccer tournament in Nairobi.

In the first of the tournament, Uganda drew 2-2 with Kenya, so Kenya must win the final game against Zambia on Wednesday -- Jamhari celebration day -- to be level on points with Uganda.

Zambia reached the final of the African Zone of the World Cup recently but they never looked likely to beat Uganda, the East African Challenge Cup champions.

Uganda dominated much of the game -- taking the lead shortly before half-time when centre forward Polly Ouma collected a pass from Omondi to score from close range.

Two minutes after the interval Zambian goalkeeper Mwape misjudged Emmanuel Kalanzi's shot from an acute angle to put Uganda two goals ahead.

The Ugandan attacks continued, but they were unable to add to their lead.

Before the game, both teams were presented to Kenyan Minister for Power and Communications, the Hon. I.E. Okelo Omero and also to Zambian and Ugandan Ministers.
