  • Description

The Industrial Committee of the Egyptian People's Assembly began a three-day tour of Egyptian petroleum and mining resources on Friday (21 September) with a visit to the Morgan oil field is the Gulf of Suez.

The Morgan oil field is the largest producing oil installation in Egypt, with an output of 120,000 barrels a day. Thirty per cent of this goes to the United States in tankers, which provide the American company's share of the joint venture with Egypt.

At present, a water-injection system is being installed to push production in the older wells. When this system begins operation in January 1974, along with the oil production from newly-discovered wells, the output of the Morgan field is expected to triple.

Egypt continues to strongly advocate the use of Arab oil resources as a means of pressuring the oil-hungry world powers to bring a solution to the Middle East crisis. But there is no sign of a slowdown in production or freezing of supplies at the Morgan field.
