  • Description

A delegation of about thirty French businessmen, members of the Conseil National du Patronat Francois -- the French employers' organisation -- has completed a four-day visit to Senegal in West Africa, during which they discussed with the Senegalese government plans for French economic aid to the country.

Among the projects under discussion was the construction of a marine repair year, capable of handling ships of 500 thousand tons and more. In particular, it would cater for the giant oil tankers, which are being built larger very year, thus exploiting Senega's geographical position on the busiest sea-routes.

During the visit, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Paul Huwelin, received from the Senegalese Prime Minister, Mr. Abdou Diouf, the National Order of the Lion, in recognition of his sympathetic and open-mined approach to the problems of Senegal. The delegation was also entertained by the President of Senegal, Leopold Senghor.
