SCU George Brown speaks "We will support any initiative which offers a chance of progress. We have warmly supported the persistent efforts of the Secretary General and the plan he put forward last March. We are ready to meet with the governments of the Soviet Union, India, Canada and Poland as proposed by the President of the World Federation of United Nations so very recently. In the same spirit we welcome the desire of the president elect of South Vietnam to try once again to bridge the gap between-Saigon and Hanoi. Much has been said about the bombing of North Vietnam - I join with those who would dearly like it to stop - therefore I regret that the leaders of North Vietnam have never said what they would either do or refrain from doing to help the process of peace if the bombing stopped. I am conscious as we all must be that there are millions of people in South Vietnam who crave for the shadow of misery and killing to be lifted from them.
