    Background: A TEAM OF BRITISH AIRCRAFT DISASTER EXPERTS ARRIVED IN LAGOS YESTERDAY (22 NOV) TO BEGIN THEIR INVESTIGATION INTO LAST THURSDAY'S VCIO DISASTER IN WHICH 87 PEOPLE DIED.

    THE FIRST CLUES TO THE CRASH ARE EXPECTED TO COME FROM THE AIRCRAFT'S "BLACK BOX" FLIGHT RECORDER WHICH HAS BEEN FLOWN TO LONDON FOR CAREFUL EXAMINATION.

    THE BOX WOULD HAVE RECORDED TECHNICAL DETAILS OF THE FLIGHT FROM LONDON VIA ROME AND KANO UNTIL IT CRASHED A FEW MINUTES FROM LAGOS. MEANWHILE THE EXPERTS YESTERDAY WADED THROUGH CHARRED AND TWISTED WRECKAGE AND VISITED THE CONTROL TOWER WHICH LOST CONTACT WITH THE VC 10 MINUTES BEFORE IT CRASHED IN FLAMES IN THE JUNGLE.

    THE TEAM INCLUDES REPRESENTATIVES FROM BOAC, THE BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION, BUILDERS OF THE AIRLINER, AND THE BRITISH BOARD OF TRADE.

    THE INVESTIGATION IS EXPECTED TO TAKE ABOUT FOUR WEEKS.
