    In the Power Boat World Championship competitions at Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday (13 September) the current World Champion, Andre Dierckx of Belgium, ended the day in second overall position after three heats of the Formula two class. In the overall lead was the Dutchman, Hans Pelster, who came second and first in the afternoon and morning heats respectively.

    Dierckx was fourth in the morning's heat, and came second in the afternoon's second heat. Britain's John Hill was placed third in both heats.

    After the first two heats of the Formula One championship, Tom Percival of Britain was in a strong position. We trailed the World Champion, Cees Van Der Velden of Holland in the first heat, with American Bob Hering finishing third. Percival then won the second heat in which Van Der Velden and Hering were unplaced. hering had failed to start, and Van Der Velden had to drop out when his boat was holed.

    The World Championship is decided on a points basis, with the best three performances from four heats counting. The final heats were scheduled to take place on Sunday (14 September).
