Libya's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mr. Mohammed Ben Amer, flew home to Tripoll on Thursday (22 February) after learning his twenty-six year old sister was among the passengers on board the Libyan airliner shot down in the Sinai desert on Wednesday (21 February). The ambassador left London's Heathrow airport with his wife and two children. He said he could only assume his sister had died on the crash. On Thursday, the number of dead had risen to 106. Heavy security was in force at the London airport.
Also on Thursday, a small crowd of demonstrators paraded outside the London office of the Israeli airline, El Al. They carried placards condemning the Israeli action and accusing Israeli Prime Minister, Mrs. Golda Meir, of murder. Police were on guard outside the airline office, and in other parts of the city, police guards were strengthened at the embassies of Middle East countries.
