Ludvik Danek, best disk thrower, world champion and Silver Olympia medal owner, is preparing for the coming season. Olympia winner Oerter, USA, will be back in the field this year. Danek, therefore, wants to be well trained to take revenge for his defeat at Tokio.
Strength is one of the best weapons of the thrower, a fact, that the leading Czechoslovak athlete of 1965 did not forget. He had a former cellar at his Brno, Moravia, home remodelled into a private tiny gymnasium where he handles the dumbells. In addition, he is training in a gymnasium and does some cross country running. His world record of 65 metres and 22 centimetres will this year again be challenged by Danek himself. Together with another Czech disk thrower, Zemla, he left for Poland on February 14th to train in a special Polish training camp for disk throwers at Bydgoscze. By the beginning of March he might appear for the first time this year in a Swiss competition at Zuerich.
