  • Description

More than 100 amateur racing cyclists from Britain, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, France, East Germany, South Africa and Australia competed in the 113-mile Manx International on the TT Course in the Isle of Man, June 24. Winner was 27-year-old East German Bernhard Eckstein, No.16, who took the place in the original entry of G. Loerke. His time, an event record, was 4 hours 54min 9secs.

Bill Bradley, No.2, of England A. who won the recent Tour of Britain, was second in the same time and beaten only by inches in a thrilling sprint finish. Doug Collins, No.4, also England A, was third in 4 hours 54min 9.2secs.

It was a three-man run up to the finish. The two Englishmen rode on each side of the road, giving the German the problem of choosing which one to mark. The two-to-one battle continued right to the end, with Eckstein emerging as the winner.
