President Felix Malloum of Chad arrived in Paris on Friday (28 October) for a four-day visit. Soon after his arrival, President Malloum had a working lunch, then talks, with President Giscard d'Estaing.
SYNOPSIS: After their talks, President Giscard bade farewell to his guests. France has given its firm support to Chad in its difference with neighbouring Libya, which last year annexed the so-called Aozou strip, a mineral-rich tract of land stretching up to 175 kilometres (110 miles) inside Chad. President Malloum said his talks with President Giscard had underlined the co-operation between their two countries. France has a group of 300 military technicians working in Chad.
There was no official statement of their talks, which lasted 45 minutes. President Giscard recently declared that France recognised only those borders of Chad which prevailed when it became independent in 1960.
