  • Description

Mr. Lodge, American Ambassador to Spain, accompanied by representatives of the US Navy and other personalities visits the small town of Jeres del Marquesado, in Granada, to express the gratitude of America to the inhabitants for their disinterested and courageous efforts in the rescue of the 24 passengers of an airliner which crashed in the vicinity of Piedra de los Lobos.

When the accident occurred, the Civil Guard, the salvage teams and many voluntary helpers strived to rescue the passengers... the wounded were tended the utmost care and in spite of the rough ground and bad weather no lives were lost.

The Fleet Tactical Support Squadron 24 offers a tablet in testimony of the US Navy's gratitude. The heroic behaviour of all those who participated in the difficult and risky evacuation of the wounded, defying the raw cold, the snow and the rough ground is recorded in it.
