  • Description

THE LEADER OF THE UGANDA PARLIAMENTARY OPPOSITION AND FIVE COLLEAGUES HAVE QUIT THEIR PARTY TO JOIN THE GOVERNMENT. THE MOVE COULD LEAD TO UGANDA JOINING OTHER EAST AFRICAN NATIONS IN HAVING A ONE-PARTY STATE.

MR. BATARINGAYA CALLED ON THE REST OF THE OPPOSITION DEMOCRATS TO JOIN THE RULING PEOPLE'S CONGRESS. HE SAID THE DECISION MIGHT NOT BE POPULAR, BUT "WE FEEL IT OUR INESCAPABLE DUTY THAT WE HELP THE GOVERNMENT BUILD TRUE UNITY IN OUR LAND AND KILL TRIBALISM AND DISCRIMINATION."
HE ADDED: "LET US FORGET OUR PAST BITTERNESS AND DIFFERENCES AND JOIN TOGETHER AS BROTHERS AND SISTERS UNDER ONE FLAG. LET US ALL UGANDANS GET ON WITH THE JOB OF BUILDING A HAPPY, STRONG, UNITED UGANDA."
