    THE HOSTEL AND ITS ANNEXE ACCOMMODATE 79 GIRLS, INCLUDING FACTORY WORKERS, GARDENERS, HAIRDRESSERS, PHYSIOTHERAPISTS. EVEN THE TRADITIONAL ENGLISH RURAL OCCUPATION OF MILKMAID IS REPRESENTED AMONG ITS RESIDENTS.

    IT IS ALSO THE HOME FOR GIRLS FROM DENMARK, ISRAEL FRANCE, NIGERIA AND PAKISTAN. MISS BOAHEN IS STUDYING AT THE INSTITUTION OF MANAGEMENT, SLOUGH COLLEGE, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. SHE HAS BEEN THERE EIGHT MONTHS.

    THE QUEEN TOURED THE HOSTEL, INSPECTING THE ROOMS WHICH, SHE WAS TOLD, THE GIRLS CLEAN THEMSELVES.

    CHARGES ARE FROM GBP 3 10s A WEEK FOR SHARING A THREE-BEDDED ROOM TO GBP 4 15s FOR A SINGLE ROOM. THE CHARGES INCLUDE BREAKFAST AND AN EVENING MEAL THROUGH THE WEEK WITH ALL MEALS AT WEEKENDS.

    BEDROOMS ARE EQUIPPED WITH THEIR OWN HANDBASINS WITH HOT AND COLD WATER; THERE ARE SHOWERS, BATHS AND SHAMPOO SPRAYS IN ALL BATHROOM UNITS. THERE IS ALSO A LAUNDRY ROOM WITH A DRYING CABINET AND IRONS, A ROOM FOR STUDYING, AND A DRESSMAKING ROOM WITH A SEWING MACHINE.

    THE HOSTEL IS CENTRALLY HEATED, EXCEPT IN THE BEDROOMS WHERE THERE ARE ELECTRIC FIRES.
