    THE WEST GERMAN GOVERNMENT HAS GIVEN THE UNIVERSITY OF EAST AFRICA IN NAIROBI, A GIFT OF BIOLOGY EQUIPMENT VALUED AT MORE THAN GBP14,000. THE EQUIPMENT WAS HANDED OVER BY THE WEST GERMAN AMBASSADOR TO KENYA, DR. OTTO SALTMAN, TO DR. PORTER, RECTOR OF THE UNIVERSITY, YESTERDAY.

    WEST GERMANY HAS SPENT OR EARMARKED MORE THAN GBP110,000 SINCE 1962, IN HELPING THE UNIVERSITY OF EAST AFRICA. A NUMBER OF ACADEMIC STAFF FROM GERMAN UNIVERSITIES ARE AT PRESENT TEACHING IN NAIROBI.

    THIS LAST GIFT, TO THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY ANATOMY AND HISTOLOGY, CONSISTS MAINLY OF PRECISION INSTRUMENTS FOR MICROSCOPY AND MICROPHOTOGRAPHY, AS WELL AS FILM PROJECTORS, MICRONOMES AND BOOKS. IT ALSO INCLUDES A LANDROVER STATION WAGON FOR FIELD WORK.

    THE DEPARTMENT WAS BUILT UP UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF A GERMAN PROFESSOR, R.R. HOFMANN, WHO IS NOW SUPPORTED BY A STAFF OF 15, INCLUDING THREE OTHER GERMANS.
