    HE IS M. CLAUDE CHAYET, A 43-YEAR-OLD PARIS WHO SPENT SIX YEARS IN CHINA AS A CHILD WITH HIS FATHER WHO ALSO IN THE FRENCH DIPLOMATIC SERVICE. M. CHAYET WAS IN NEW YORK FOR SIX YEARS AS MEMBER OF THE FRENCH DELEGATION TO UNITED NATIONS AND WAS CONNECTED WITH THE DECISIVE FRANCO-ALGERIAN TALKS IN EVIAN-LES-BAINS IN MARCH 1962.

    HE SAID AT THE AIRPORT THAT HIS JOB BEFORE ARRIVAL OF THE AS YET UNNAMED AMBASSADOR WOULD BE TO PREPARE ACCOMMODATION AND ARRANGE THE FIRST INTERVIEWS.

    "IT DOES NOT SEEM TO ME THAT MY MISSION IS PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT, BUT NATURALLY I COULD BE WRONG," HE SAID.

    UNDER THE TERMS OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF FRENCH RECOGNITION OF CHINA, THE TWO COUNTRIES ARE TO EXCHANGE AMBASSADORS WITHIN THREE MONTHS.
