  • Description

One man was killed and five injured when a twin-engined do Havilland Rapide aircraft crashed as it was landing on the new St. Alban's, England, by-pass July 7, and burst into flames after striking a lorry in its path.

The plane was on charter to the engineering Company that is building the road, and three of their officials, who had received permission to make a landing on the new road were in the plane with a Lincolnshire County Council surveyor who lost his life in the crash, and the pilot who is believed to have head and shoulder injuries.

The party had flown over from the Company's head office at Wolverhampton for an inspection of the work in progress.

The driver of the lorry had an amazing escape from death, as did several other men who were working near the spot.
