    Gabon's President Albert Bernard Bongo has announced that his country and neighbouring Equatorial Guinea have settled their frontier dispute after talks in the Zaire capital of Kinshasa.

    The talks between President Bongo and President Francisco Nguema of Equatorial Guinea, took place in Kinshase on Sunday (17 September) at the invitation of the President of Zaire, President Mobutu Sese Seko, and the President of Congo, President Marien Ngouabi.

    President Bongo arrived at Kinshasa's Ndjili Airport to be welcomed by President Mobutu, a group of colourful dancers and an excited crowd of Kinshasans.

    The dispute between the two countries was over the possession of three small islands off the coast which Gabon had accused Equatorial Guinea of invading.

    The four leaders have also decided to set up a commission with representatives from each of the four states to draw up measures to settle any remaining difference on a peaceful basis.
