    Only a day after Danes voted a decisive 'yes' to European Economic Community entry, Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag shook the country on Tuesday (3 October) by announcing his resignation. His place as Premier has been taken by trade union leader Anker Joergensen, who has never held cabinet office before.

    Mr Krag record this following interview on Monday (2 October) shortly after the referendum produced the massive 63.5 per cent vote in favour of entry, and spoke about future talks with other Scandinavian leaders:-
    SYNOPSIS: Unlike their Norwegian neighbours a week earlier, Danes voted a decisive 'yes' for entry into the European Common Market in Monday's referendum. A record eighty-nine per cent of the population turned out to vote. Of these, sixty-three-and-a-half per cent were in favour.

    The massive 'yes' vote particularly pleased Denmark's Prime Minister, Jens Otto Krag..yet soon after he rocked the country by announcing his resignation, to be replaced as Premier by Trade Union leader Anker Joergensen. Mr Joergensen, who has never held cabinet office before, was unanimously nominated by the ruling social Democratic Party's executive committee. Mr Krag had this to say about the referendum result before his shock resignation decision was known.
