  • Description

The Bulgarian football taem -- Trakia -- were beaten 2-1 by Stationery Stores of Lagos on Saturday (February 16th) in the first game of their five-match goodwill tour of Nigeria.

Trakia came to the match with a fearsome reputation because they had already beaten the leading Ghanaian sides, Hearts of Oak of Accra and Acotex.

Trakia kicked off, playing from left to right against Stores in an all-white strip. In the early stage, both sides tried hard to set up some attacking moves but seldom got inside the opposing penalty area. The in the 10th minute Trakia centre-forward Kamenev raced on to a pass, outpaced two defenders and put a hard shot to the right of the goalkeeper. But a few minutes later, Stores' centre forward Sanni Mohammed equalised.

The second was a fairly even struggle until a few minutes before the end Stores' Yomi Peters was fouled in the penalty area. Haruna Herika crashed home the penalty kick to give Stores a 2-1 victory. The crowd -- many of whom had travelled long distances to see one of Lagos' most publicised matches for a long time -- went wild with delight.
