    EIGHTEEN SOUTH KOREAN SOLDIERS, KILLED IN ACTION IN SOUTH VIETNAM, WERE BURIED IN SEOUL ON FRIDAY. RELATIVES AND FRIENDS GATHERED AROUND AS THE ASHES OF THE WAR DEAD WERE BURIED IN GRAVEYARD CONTAINING THE GRAVES OF SOME OF THE 40,000 KOREAN SERVICEMEN WHO DIED IN THE KOREAN WAR.

    A LARGE CONTINGENT OF SOUTH KOREAN SOLDIERS IS FIGHTING IN VIETNAM, ALONGSIDE SOUTH VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT FORCES AND TROOPS FROM THE UNITED STATES, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. ABOUT 18,000 MEN HAVE BEEN SENT FROM SOUTH KOREA TO FIGHT IN VIETNAM.

    THE SOUTH KOREAN DEATH TOLL IN THE VIETNAM WAR IS NOW A LITTLE OVER 200. THE BODIES OF THE SERVICEMEN ARE FLOWN HOME TO SOUTH KOREA FOR CREMATION AND BURIAL -- AND THE CEREMONIES ARE CARRIED OUT WITH FULL MILITARY HONOURS.

    IN THIS WEEK'S BURIAL, BUDDHIST MONKS RECITED PRAYERS AS THE ASHES WERE BURIED. WREATHS OF FLOWERS WERE PLACED ON THE GRAVES. MANY RELATIVES BROKE DOWN AND WEPT BITTERLY AS THE HEADSTONES WERE SET IN PLACE.
