Background: Rescue training such as was employed and applicable in situations where hostages have to be freed from the hands of terrorists, a training aspect which of course has equally applications in wartime, has become part of the training of the Israel paratrooper course. The first such course to perform such operations for the public eye was today's exercise when Visnews had exclusive access. Special units of para corps amongst others are being trained for these operations. In today's exercise the unit was trained to help hoist equipment into a helicopter under field conditions without the helicopter touching down and later both the aircrew and the groundcrew trained being lifted up and lowered down with the helicopter in the air. This way casualties in inaccessible areas as well as equipment, hostages from atop a building etc can be evacuated, of course also pilots shot down behind enemy lines, and on the other hand soldiers can be lowered into areas otherwise inaccessible.
