" The space shuttle orbiter all 185,000 pounds, has been mated with a 747 jet airliner.

Many exotic flying machines have been tested at this centre but this combination is the most unusual ever seen here

Even the crew who will fly the 747 with the shuttle perched on top wee excited as the aircraft were towed............to a hangar for testing

In the coming months the shuttle will be flown atop the 747 several times to see how it handles.......and even released in mid air to see how i it lands."

SOF "Now that this first move has been made, the scene is set for what the Space Administration hope will be a first flight next week Roy Neil, NBC News Edwards Air Force Base, California
