  • Description

Work on the first Soviet-United States feature film co-production, "The Blue Bird," is progressing in Leningrad.

Adapted from the allegorical stage fantasy by Maurice Maeterlinck, the film features an all-star cast assembled from both countries, including the American actresses Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda, Ava Gardner and Cicely Tyson and such Soviet performers as the Prima Ballerina Assoluta, Maya Plisetskaya, the Bolshoi's Alexander Godunov and the Moscow Circus clown Oleg Popov.

The film is being directed by the veteran of Hollywood musical comedies, George Cukor, and produced by Edward Lewis. The screenplay is by Alexei Kapler and Hugh Whitemore and the music by Andrei Patrov and Irwin Kostal.

Lending the production an even more international flavour are such British performers as Mona Washbourne, Richard Pearson and Max Wall.

"The Blue Bird" is scheduled for release next Christmas.
