    PRESIDENT JOMO KENYATTA RETURNED TO NAIROBI ON FRIDAY (31 JANUARY) TO ATTEND THE REQUIEM MASS FOR THE LATE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MR. C.M.G. ARGWINGS-KODHEK, AT THE HOLY FAMILY CATHEDRAL YESTERDAY (SATURDAY 1 FEBRUARY).

    MR. ARGWINGS-KODHEK DIED IN NAIROBI HOSPITAL ON THURSDAY MORNING FOLLOWING A CAR ACCIDENT A FEW HOURS EARLIER. MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE HAVE BEEN RECEIVED FROM AFRICAN LEADERS AND OTHERS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

    THE MASS WAS SAID BY HIS GRACE ARCHBISHOP J.J. MCCARTHY, BISHOP OF NAIROBI, AND MR. MOI, THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF KENYA, DELIVERED A EULOGY DURING THE SERVICE.

    AT THE END OF THE REQUIEM MASS, CABINET MINISTERS CARRIED THE COFFIN TO THE HEARSE. A GUARD OF HONOUR MOUNTED BY THE KENYA RIFLES PRESENTED ARMS AS THE BODY ENTERED THE HEARSE ON ITS WAY TO THE LATE MINISTER'S HOME IN YALA, WHERE HE WAS BURIED NEXT DAY.
