  • Description

THE FASHION HOUSES OF FLORENCE AND MILAN PRESENTED THEIR 1965 SPRING AND SUMMER COLLECTIONS AT THE PITTI PALACE IN FLORENCE FROM JANUARY 16-20TH. IN PREVIOUS YEARS, MOST OF ITALY'S OTHER LEADING DESIGNERS HAVE ALSO SHOWN IN FLORENCE, BUT THIS YEAR THEIR CREATIONS HAVE BEEN DISPLAYED IN ROME ONLY.

JOLE VENEZIANI'S COLLECTION HAS BEEN INSPIRED BY THE THEME: 'FASHION MUST BE CREATED FOR THE LIFE WE LIVE'. HER COATS ARE YOUNG LOOKING WITH HIGH WAISTS; THE BACKS HAVE PLEATS OR ARE BELL-SHAPED, SOME WITH KIMONO SLEEVES. SUITS HAVE SHORT COATS, OFTEN WITH BELTS. MATERIALS FEATURED IN THE COLLECTION ARE FOR THE MOST PART MADE IN ITALY, WHILE THE DOMINANT COLOURS ARE PASTEL, WITH WHITE AND BLUE MUCH IN EVIDENCE. HATS ARE VERY SMALL AND SIMPLE.

THE FIRST MODEL IS A SLIM-LINE REDINGOTE IN SILK BROCADE. THE TIGHT BODICE CONTRASTS WITH WIDE, BELL-SHAPED SKIRT. THE HALF-BELT IS MADE OF THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE DRESS. THE HAT IS CREATED FROM BLUE ORGANDIE.

NEXT, A MORNING COAT IN WHITE 'DOUBLE-FACE' WOOL, WITH HALF-BELT. THE HAT IS OF WHITE STRAW, DECORATED WITH BLUE CHIFFON.

FOR COCKTAIL WEAR, A DRESS IN TURQUOISE CHIFFON. THE TIGHTLY DRAWN BODICE HAS FLAT PLEATS, ALTERNATING WITH LACE PANELS. THE SKIRT IS WIDE, AND HEMMED WITH MATCHING LACE. THE HAT, ALSO IN CHIFFON, IS DECORATED WITH A ROSE.

FINALLY FROM THE HOUSE OF VENEZIANI, AN AFTERNOON DRESS IN SOFT WOOL, WITH A WIDE PANEL AT THE BACK. THE TIGHT FITTING BODICE, IS SET OFF WITH A TINY COLLAR, THE DELIGHTFULLY EYE-CATCHING HAT IS FORMED FROM TWO ENORMOUS BLACK CARNATIONS.

NOW A SELECTION OF EVENING IDEAS FROM THE MILAN HOUSE OF MARUCELLI. THIS HOUSE LEADS THE WIDE SKIRTED MOVEMENT, OFTEN WITH SWIRLING ACCORDIAN PLEATS. THE DRESSES IN CHIFFON REACH DOWN TO THE FLOOR. AS AN ALTERNATIVE FOR THE EVENING OUT - THE VERY BECOMING BELL-SHAPED PANTS.

LEADING THE MARUCELLI PARADE; SHOT AGAINST THE OLD WORLD BACKDROP OF FLORENTINE TOWER, IS AN EVENING DRESS OF GEORGETTE, PRINTED IN BLACK AND WHITE. ONE DISTINCTIVE FEATURE OF THE COLLECTION IS THE COLOUR SCHEME - ALWAYS TWO CONTRASTED COLOURS. THE SKIRT IS PLEATED, THE BODICE DRAPED.

NEXT A BOLDLY STRIPED EVENING DRESS IN HEAVY SATIN, WITH THE RED AND BLACK STRIPES BECOMING LARGER TOWARDS THE HEM.

FOR THE FIRST OF HER JACKET AND TROUSER EVENING CREATIONS, THE STRIPED THEME IS FEATURED AGAIN. THE JACKET IS IN RED AND WHITE STRIPES, WHILE THE TROUSERS - WITH A NAUTICAL APPEARANCE - ARE ONE COLOURED.

FROM SAILORS TO COSSACKS.... THIS OUTFIT, HAS EVENING PANTS GATHERED IN TRUE COSSACK STYLE. THE BODICE IS CREATED FROM BLUE AND WHITE CROSSED STRIPES.

STRIPES AGAIN: THIS TIME A COCKTAIL OR DINNER ENSEMBLE IN WHITE AND BLACK. THE PRINTING FORMS A CRISS-CROSS PATTERN ON THE BODICE, BUT CHANGES ON THE PLEATED SKIRT.

AN ESTIMATED ONE HUNDRED BUYERS MOSTLY FORM GERMANY - ATTENDED THE SERIES OF SHOWS OVER THE FOUR DAYS, ALONG WITH AN EQUAL NUMBER OF FASHION WRITERS FROM ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD.
