    In Togo, members of the Union of West African Football Federations got together on the 27th of February to formulate plans for boosting the game in West Africa. Sixteen countries are represented in the Union, and delegate from all of them arrived in Togo for the conference.

    SYNOPSIS: The meeting took place in Lome, the Togolese capital, and represented the first-over general assembly of the Union of West African Football Federations, known locally as the U.F.D.A. The proceedings were officially opened by a member of Togo's Political Bureau, M. Koffi Voule-Frititi, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport.

    The Lome football conference came just days before the general assembly of the West African Football Confederation, which opened in Accra on March the 3rd, to coincide with the finals of the African Cup football series, In his opening speech, M. Voule-Frititi said the aim of football administrators should be the same as that of the Government of Togo....to boost sport as much as possible, and to raise the standard of play to international competition level. The Minister emphasised the important role football, and sport in general, could play in promoting national pride.
