  • Description

The subject of racial discrimination dominated talks at the opening on Monday (21 November) of the Seventh general assembly of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA). The three-day meeting was held at the Moroccan capital, Rabat.

SYNOPSIS: "Delegates from 34 of the 45 member countries heard appeals for a continued struggle against racial discrimination.

The Moroccan Minister of Youth and Sports, Monsieur Abdelhafid Kadiri said Africans must do everything in their power to root out what he called the "apartheid cancer" which was preying on their consciences and on their souls.

Chairman of the Council, Mr. Abraham Ordia, echoed this theme. He reminded delegates of a resolution adopted by the Organisation of African Unity, which called foe a boycott of all sports federations that entertained relations with racist regimes. Mr Ordia said the success of the boycott campaign so far should not be an excuse for the Council to relax its efforts. He warned that racist regimes were still trying to be re-integrated into world sports federations.
